What is a Convention Pitch?

If you could be in a giant convention room right now, with the entire audience completely comprised of your most perfect prospects, would you know what to say? Are you ready right now? Could you walk out on that stage and present to every one of them and do it with riveting information, graphics and powerful facts that will motivate and get their attention? I call this the convention pitch

What if I said they were at this event for many reasons than to simply watch you, and if you don’t grab their attention they will most likely leave after few short moments.

This represents the ideal situation with some reality mixed in.  Identifying your best customers and then presenting them with facts and information that leaves them with no alternative but to do business with you is the goal of any great presentation.

When I meet with executives, and managers this is the first place we start. Do you have a Core Narrative, with a solid corporate pitch that works in every corner of your business, and excites and motivates all of your best customer?

Some think I slick tagline or slogan is enough. Nope, not even close. Our tagline is, “We work harder so you can work smarter.” It neatly encapsulates what we do in 40 characters.

If I spent the first minute with prospective clients exclaiming “We work harder so you can work smarter!” most would turn off and tune out.

First and foremost I want to know my client, or prospective client. If I don’t understand her business, competitors, market cap, brand exposure, industry history

I like to start off with a bang by announcing the fact that, “Companies that are not making money on their internet efforts, even if it’s just paying for hosting, are 5 times more likely to get beat by their competition for the sale.”  Then I present lots of data to back this up like the percentage of commerce moving to the internet in their field, and statistics on how the competition is eating their lunch. Next, I might graphically pronounce “The 5 Hopeless Internet Mistakes You Can Make That Will Turn Off the Search Engines,” and destroy your online branding and reputation for the foreseeable future.  And that would put most people out-of-business!

By 19 years old Chuck had sold services to 20 Fortune 500 companies, including, Eastman Kodak, Procter & Gamble, Time, GE, Warner, and Bristol-Myers. He successfully negotiated contracts with 40 of the most influential companies in New York City to build the largest messenger service of its day. When the messenger business came to an end with the advent of the fax machines, Chuck went to work in the stock market as a broker becoming one of the three youngest brokers ever hired at Thompson McKinnon.

In 1997 Chuck, alongside his wife Cara, moved their energy toward helping struggling kids and families. For the next 15 years they ran Sarasota Community School and Kanner Academy serving over 700 students at their SACS accredited day and boarding schools. These schools did away with most medications and “psychotherapy” and focused on relationship and community self-government.  Chucks education in Sociology and his history as a Gestalt psychotherapeutic practitioner put him in a place to lead a community of kids, families and faculty
